Hello

My name’s Dominic and I’d be delighted to be your editor.
Headshot of editor Dominic Fenn
I’ve been working professionally as an editor and proofreader since 1998. Prior to that, I completed a degree in creative writing and a postgraduate diploma in publishing. I also have a CELTA qualification in teaching English as a foreign language, and a C2 (native-level) certificate in Spanish.

My areas of expertise

My editorial work is focused on non-fiction – in particular, business and information publishing. I spent over a decade as an editor of market research reports and investment articles before moving into official publishing for the UK government.
For more than four years, I was single-handedly responsible for editing the complete portfolio of learning materials for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. This included information on driving various classes of vehicle, study guides for the theory and practical tests, and the official guide to the rules of the road: the Highway Code. I ensured consistency of information and style across 17 print books, numerous eBooks, multimedia products, mobile apps and two websites, updating all of these regularly as legislation and other details changed.
I’ve also edited and proofread high-profile projects for a number of other UK government departments and agencies, such as:
  • Home Office – Life in the UK (the official study guide for the UK citizenship test)
  • Foreign Office – reports to Parliament
  • Department of Health – Chief Medical Officer’s annual report, patient information, etc.
  • Cabinet Office – ITIL and AXELOS publications
  • Maritime and Coastguard Agency – books on safety, psychology and seafarers’ wellbeing.
Projects for other clients have included policy and practice guides for Investors in People, global standards for the British Retail Consortium, and British standards for BSI.
Most recently, I’ve focused on two main streams of work:
  • High-profile books for publishers such as Pan Macmillan – I’ve edited text by various senior figures from the world of business, politics and finance, including a former majority leader of the US House of Representatives and a former chief justice of the Delaware Supreme Court.
  • Articles, white papers and promotional materials for a number of multinational financial service providers, including HSBC, IG Prime, abrdn, Pictet, Fidelity, Principal, PIMCO, Franklin Templeton, EFG, KPMG, BNP Paribas and Aviva.
In addition to editing, I write fiction. See my other website, domfenn.com, for more details.
